My sister Julie and her kids Zoe, Aaron and Gregory came this morning (her husband and one more kid stayed home in Texas) . Hideaki gets here tonight.
Once everyone had a chance to relax a bit, Dad and took the kids and I for a Creek Walk. Etobicoke Creek runs a few minutes' walk from our house, and the kids and I have been going for walks there since we were little.
This time we saw a groundhog, a cute little brown bird, a triton-shaped thistle branch, and dozens of empty snail shells:
A recent heatwave killed them, apparently. We also saw this pretty red milkweed beetle:
An excellent Creek Walk, I'd say. A few more pics starting here.
Dinner was barbequed beef ribs. I've gone my whole life thinking I don't like ribs. Turns out I was wrong. Way wrong. These were a collaborative effort between my Mom and Greg, with the ribs being simmered first, slathered with a homemade barbeque sauce, and grilled over charcoal.
With Hideaki coming a few hours later, we were obliged to keep a few for him. But it took all of my willpower not to eat his share..
